We all desire radiant smooth skin, and there are tons of products available at drugstores and fancy boutiques. For many of us, however, natural skincare products deliver results, do not upset the delicate balance of one’s complexion, and are made without potentially toxic chemicals and preservatives. Our skincare experts are sharing their favorite do-it-yourself topicals that you can make at home.
1. Aloe Anti-Aging Gel
Aloe vera gel is an incredible, natural topical that comes from the spiky succulent plant. You can purchase stalks of aloe from your supermarket to extract the gel, grow it in your garden, or you can buy pure aloe vera gel for skin care recipes.
For our Aloe Anti-Aging Gel, you will need just two ingredients:
- 1 Tbsp. aloe vera gel
- 1 vitamin E capsule
In a small bowl, mix the aloe vera with the oil from a vitamin E capsule. Prick it with a pin, and squeeze the oil out.
At nighttime after cleansing your face, gently massage the mixture onto your face and neck. It promotes clear, smooth skin.
2. Coconut Oil Massage
We’ve all heard about the multiple benefits of using coconut oil, which makes it quite an awesome, natural ingredient. The oil is packed with saturated fats that easily penetrate the skin and offer soothing moisture and yet, doesn’t leave behind a greasy residue.
One way to incorporate coconut oil into your health and wellness routine is by making an amazing coconut oil massage. It feels wonderful after a long day at work or physical activity. You can also massage some into your face for hydrating skincare treatment.
Our recipe is simple and effective:
All you need is some coconut oil and CBD isolate. The powder offers healing benefits and is hemp-derived and THC-free. The combination makes for an excellent coconut oil massage treatment.
3. Green Tea Toner
Applying a facial toner can have a tremendous impact on your daily skincare routine. What a good toner does is remove any last bit of dirt, grime, and/or impurities that are clogging your pores even after thoroughly washing your face. Green tea in particular has great effects on the skin and can help with the effects of aging on the skin.
Using a toner every day and/or evening will allow your pores to look almost invisible and temporarily tighten the skin.
Green tea toner is great at reducing redness and promoting anti-aging benefits.
- 1/3 cup green tea that has been cooled
- 3 to 4 drops tea tree essential oil
Get a spray bottle and shake the two ingredients together. After cleansing, mist the toner over your face and neck.
4. Homemade Lip Scrub
Whatever you do, don’t neglect your lips. Our lips happen to be made of delicate skin tissue that lacks oil glands. That makes them prone to dryness all year round.
A DIY natural lip scrub will leave your pucker soft and kissable, and our recipe features three ingredients you probably have in your kitchen cupboard:
- 1 Tbsp. coconut oil
- 2 tsp. sugar
- 1 tsp. honey
For this recipe, you will need a very small container. Mix all three ingredients, and you’re good to go.
Try this a couple of times a week or whenever your lips feel dry from the sun, wind, heat or cold.
Apply a small amount of the sugar scrub to your fingers, and gently rub onto the lips. Massage for about a minute, and then rinse with warm water. This scrub should leave your lips smooth and soft feeling.
5. Minty Foot Scrub
Let’s face it; our feet go through a lot but often don’t get the attention they need. That’s why a DIY minty foot scrub will take care of cracked heels and dry skin and feel really good during the process.
All you’ll need are:
- 2 cups brown sugar
- 1/2 cup coconut oil
- dash of peppermint oil
Stir the ingredients together, and apply the scrub all over your feet, massaging the mixture in. Allow it to remain on the feet for a few minutes.
Your feet will feel a menthol effect.
Rinse and pat dry.
It’s important to take care of the skin on our faces and bodies, but most of us are interested in safe, natural, and effective ingredients. Try these DIY skincare topicals. We think you will be pleased with the results!
